At present it is likely that I will persue the Tabbed format
design. I have posted another revision to the tabbed format,
addressing the ability to view multiple topics at once.

The calendar format has been put to the side for the moment to give
me more time to develop the Tabbed format. I will revisit this
shortly.

There has been positve feedback on the tab design so i will develop
a prototype of this for people to play with.

The concept of a calendar format has a lot of support but opinions
on how it should look and work are quite varied, so this will need
to be explored in more detail before it's taken any further.

From the feedback we've recieved on eduforge and by email so far it's a pretty even. But with a few tweaks thanks to your comments and with a bit of luck we'll have a pretty good course format.

I have added a fourth idea for a course format. A calendar driven
course mixed with a weekly format. I would be interested in your
comments on this design, as several tutors have expressed interest
in the idea of running a course by the calendar. It is however a
complex design and while I intend to develop a prototype so we can
evaluate it's functionality, I am hesitant to suggest it will
progress further.

I have begun prototyping the topic formats, these will be available
soon on www.elearning.ac.nz/interface/

The next task is to investigate and design a theme for the OSCINZ
implementation of Moodle.

There are now 3 variations of a visual interface design based on
the topic format. These can be viewed in the Interface design
section of Documents. I intend to develop an HTML / JavaScript
prototype of two of these designs for user testing. Only one will
be fully developed and added to moodle as an additional course
format.

I am also working on a visual interface design based on the weekly
format which incorporates a calendar. I hope to post this up before
17/09/04. This concept may prove too difficult to develop and as
such I make no promise it will proceed beyond the prototype
stage.

Any questions or comments you have on any of the designs are
welcome. Please post these to the interface discussion topic.

I have pre-released a design for a user interface.  Go to the
documents section to have a look.  If you have any comments
please post them to the user interface discussion forum. 
Please note this is a pre-release, all colours and images and body
text are temporary only.  What is of importance is the general
layout and functionality.

Designs

I have started work on 3 alternate versions of the LMS
interface.  At this stage i need to be reasonably specific in
the designs but am finding this difficult as i don't yet
understand exactly how Moodle is used.  Basing the designs on
my experience of another LMS eg WebCT isn't working.  So i
need to investigate Moodle further and produce a brief report
before i can continue with the interface designs.

Back-end

I have had a bit of a play with Moodle and read some of the
documentation and it looks to be a straight forward process to
develop the back-end to create a new interface.  One of the
coming tasks is to produce a (PHP) development plan outlining what
files we will need to create and how we should go about
development.
