With only 8 weeks remaining before the eCDF ePortfolio Project formally closes, the project team have been focussing on completing the last of the development work, supporting the case study organisations and working to promote Mahara.

Since returning from the Christmas holidays it has been full steam ahead within the ePortfolio Project.

We have seen the completion of Stage 2 and Stage 3 developments and the very exciting launch of My Portfolio (http://myportfolio.ac.nz) with the first stable code release for Mahara – available for download here.

Following on from Richard's weekend posting, I am pleased to announce that work on the ePortfolio Project is progressing well and we have indeed released our first iteration of coding work on the Mahara ePortfolio system via https://eduforge.org/projects/mahara/. 

This first phase of Mahara development includes key backend work as well as Login and Registration functionality and the Profile and Account sections (including Preferences and Recent Activity).

The second round of coding work is currently being tested and should be ready for release next week.  Phase two work includes Watchlist functionality, the implementation of the Views/Artefacts/Groups framework and the View Creation wizard.

Now that I've described the functional framework on which we are basing our ePortfolio system, it seems timely to give an overview on how the project team intend on delivering this goal.

The ePortfolio Project is working to five main deliverables:

1. Generating a theoretical framework for student ePortfolios
2. Developing an open source ePortfolio application, made available over the Internet
3. Facilitating a series of case studies
4. Creating documentation for implementation strategies, user guides, and suggested policies
5. Establishing an open source group for further development

I promised in my last post that I would publish updates on the progress of the ePortfolio Project.  I thought I'd start by describing the framework on which we are basing the system before going into where we are at 3 months into the project.

Since ePortfolios were mentioned in the last posting, I thought it timely to introduce the ePortfolio Project...

The ePortfolio Project is charged with developing an open source ePortfolio application and to provide implementation strategies for the New Zealand tertiary sector.

This project is a collaborative venture funded by the Ministry of Education’s e-learning Collaborative Development Fund (eCDF), involving Massey University (lead provider), Auckland University of Technology, The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand and Victoria University of Wellington.
